Understanding Sustainably Yours: Ingredients and Varieties
Sustainably Yours distinguishes itself from conventional litters primarily through its innovative composition, utilizing renewable resources to create a high-performance product.
The Power of Corn and Cassava
At the heart of Sustainably Yours cat litter are two primary, natural ingredients: corn and cassava. These plant-based materials are not only sustainable and biodegradable but also possess inherent properties that make them excellent for cat litter. Corn and cassava are highly absorbent, allowing them to rapidly soak up moisture and trap odors naturally. Unlike clay litters that rely on chemical additives or fragrances, Sustainably Yours leverages these natural absorbents to neutralize ammonia smells effectively, contributing to a fresher home environment without artificial scents. The natural composition means it’s also non-toxic, making it a safer option for cats and owners, especially those with sensitivities or respiratory concerns.
Choosing Your Formula
Sustainably Yours offers a few distinct varieties tailored to different household needs, ensuring you can find a formula that best suits your cat and lifestyle:
- Multi-Cat: This is their standard formula, designed for homes with more than one feline. It focuses on robust clumping and effective odor control to manage the increased demands of multiple cats.
- Multi-Cat Plus: An enhanced version offering additional odor-fighting power. This formula is ideal for households that need extra help combating strong odors, especially in smaller spaces or with particularly odorous cats.
- Small Spaces: Specifically formulated for smaller litter boxes or living environments. While similar in core properties, it’s often designed to optimize performance in confined areas. The brand also offers variations with different grain sizes, such as “Large Grains,” which some users report may help reduce tracking compared to the finer textures.

One of the most lauded aspects of Sustainably Yours is its exceptional clumping ability. Upon contact with moisture, this litter forms remarkably solid, quick-forming clumps that maintain their integrity during scooping. This firm clumping prevents urine from seeping to the bottom of the litter box, a common frustration with many natural and even some clay litters. The strong clumps mean less waste when you scoop, as the entire soiled area can be removed cleanly and efficiently, contributing to a cleaner box and prolonged litter life.
Exceptional Odor Control
Odor management is a critical factor for any cat owner, and Sustainably Yours performs admirably in this category. Without the use of artificial fragrances to mask smells, it relies on the natural absorbent properties of corn and cassava to trap ammonia odors effectively. Many users report that even the unscented formulas do an excellent job of neutralizing unpleasant smells, creating a more pleasant environment. For multi-cat households or those with particularly potent odors, the Multi-Cat Plus formula offers an enhanced level of odor control.
Virtually Dust-Free
For both felines and humans with respiratory sensitivities, dust is a major concern. Sustainably Yours boasts extremely low dust levels, producing noticeably less airborne particulate than many traditional clay litters and even other natural alternatives. This makes it an ideal choice for cats prone to breathing challenges like asthma, as well as for owners with allergies or respiratory issues. The reduced dust also means a cleaner home and less residue on furniture.
Environmentally Friendly
A core appeal of Sustainably Yours lies in its commitment to the environment. Made entirely from renewable resources like corn and cassava, it offers a biodegradable alternative to traditional clay litters, which are derived from strip-mined minerals and do not decompose. Choosing Sustainably Yours helps reduce your carbon pawprint and supports sustainable practices, contributing to a healthier planet. The brand also reportedly partners with environmental organizations, further solidifying its eco-conscious mission.
Non-Toxic and Safe
The natural composition of corn and cassava means Sustainably Yours is free from harmful chemicals, silica dust, and artificial fragrances often found in conventional litters. This non-toxic formulation makes it a safer option for your cat, especially if they are prone to ingesting litter or have sensitive paws. It also creates a healthier home environment for all inhabitants.
Potential Drawbacks to Consider
While Sustainably Yours offers many compelling benefits, it’s also important to acknowledge some potential downsides that may influence your decision.
Tracking Tendencies
Despite its many advantages, tracking is a commonly reported issue with Sustainably Yours. Due to its fine and lightweight granular texture, the litter can sometimes stick to cats’ paws and scatter outside the litter box. While the brand offers a “Large Grains” version to mitigate this, some users still find that tracking can be more noticeable compared to heavier, coarser litters. Placing a litter mat outside the box can help manage this, but it’s a factor to consider for those who prioritize a spotless floor.
Price Point
Sustainably Yours is generally positioned as a premium cat litter, and its price reflects its natural, sustainable ingredients and performance benefits. It tends to be more expensive per pound than many conventional clay litters. For budget-conscious cat owners, this higher upfront cost can be a deterrent, although some argue that its efficient clumping and extended lifespan can offset the expense over time by requiring less frequent full litter changes.
Flushability Concerns
The brand markets Sustainably Yours as flushable in small amounts, which is an attractive feature for many environmentally minded owners. However, user experiences regarding its flushability are mixed. Some reports indicate that the hard clumps may not dissolve quickly or completely, even after extended periods in water. This could potentially lead to plumbing issues. Furthermore, it’s crucial to check local regulations, as flushing cat litter (regardless of type) is illegal in some areas, like California, due to concerns about parasites like Toxoplasma gondii entering water systems. Therefore, while technically biodegradable, caution is advised when considering flushing.

Tips for Maximizing Your Sustainably Yours Experience
To get the most out of your Sustainably Yours cat litter and ensure a clean, comfortable environment for your feline friend, consider these practical tips:
- Choose the Right Litter Box: A high-sided litter box or one with a top entry can help contain the lighter litter particles and reduce tracking. Placing a dedicated litter mat with deep grooves outside the box is also highly recommended.
- Maintain Proper Litter Depth: Aim for 3-4 inches of litter in the box. This depth allows for optimal clumping and ensures waste doesn’t stick to the bottom, making scooping easier and more efficient.
- Diligence in Scooping: For superior odor control and hygiene, scoop the litter box at least once, preferably twice, daily. Sustainably Yours clumps effectively, making daily maintenance a breeze and extending the life of the litter.
- Proper Storage: Store your Sustainably Yours litter in a cool, dry place away from moisture. As it’s plant-based, humidity can affect its performance and freshness. An airtight container can help preserve its quality.
What Cat Owners Are Saying About Sustainably Yours
Customer feedback for Sustainably Yours cat litter is largely positive, highlighting its significant advantages, especially for eco-conscious pet parents. Many users rave about its “amazing” clumping ability, noting that it forms “rock-hard” clumps that are “very easy to clean out of the litter box,” preventing urine from sticking to the bottom. The “extremely low dust” level is another frequently praised feature, making it a preferred choice for “cat parents and cats who have issues with dust.” Pet owners also appreciate its “non-toxic and eco-friendly” composition, seeing it as a “great natural alternative to clay litter.”
However, not all feedback is without reservations. The most common critique revolves around “tracking,” with some users finding that the fine, lightweight grains tend to scatter outside the box more than other litters. While many affirm its good “odor control,” a few comments suggest it might not always “cover smell” as effectively as some heavily scented clay options, particularly in multi-cat homes without diligent scooping. The “flushability” claim also receives mixed reviews, with some users expressing skepticism after finding clumps don’t dissolve easily. Despite these points, for many, the benefits of superior clumping, minimal dust, and environmental responsibility make Sustainably Yours a worthwhile investment.
